We wish our students & families a very joyful, and safe holiday season.

Santa’s Cottage

For the first time we will be hosting a Santa’s Cottage here at MES to give students the opportunity to shop for their families and loved ones.  Santa's Cottage will be set up for shopping Dec. 16th-19th. Younger students will have their older cross-age buddies to help them shop.  Envelopes are going home soon with students. The envelope has space on the back for you to note what people your child will be shopping for.   The items will come home in gift bags the day your child shops. This is an optional activity, please don't feel obligated to send money for shopping if your family is not interested.  If you have any questions, please call the office. The schedule for shopping will come home as the week approaches.

Band Notes

The MES 5th grade band students have been hard at work to prepare for the upcoming Christmas Band Concert, which will be held on Thursday, December 19. The concert will begin at 7:00pm in the big gym.  Admission is free and open to the public. If you have any questions regarding band, please contact Kim Mathews at mathewsk@msd19.org or Angie Reiter at reitera@msd19.org

The PTO is bringing back the famous Harlem Wizards!!!  Look for details and ticket information in December!

5 Essential Survey

The state of Illinois requires all public schools to administer this survey to parents, students, and teachers each year.  At the elementary level, our 4th and 5th grade students will take this survey in computer class with Mrs. Hilpert. Parents-please take a few moments to complete this survey for MES.  Here is the link: https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/.   After you fill in your email address, it will ask for the county.  Please spell out Saint Clair. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.  Thanks for doing this!

Illinois Learning Standards Online Resources

Parents who are aware of and understand Illinois Learning Standards are better able to help with their child’s studies.  Here is the link to the Illinois Learning Standards. This Illinois State Board of Education site has many resources for parents.  https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Learning-Standards.aspx.

Humane Society Drive

Our annual collection for the Humane Society kicks off in December.  Collected items will be delivered to the Belleville Humane Society after Christmas.  Items accepted are listed below, but cash is always appreciated. Collection bins will be in the building and containers for cash donations will be available too.  The animals really need our help and our MES family has always pulled through. Many thanks for supporting this worthy cause.

Skyward Qmlativ - Family Access

All parents and guardians can edit their email address and phone numbers in Family Access.  Once logged into Skyward go to Family Access, click on the “Student Profile” icon box for your child, and click on the pencil icon next to “Your Family Information.” This will allow you to update your information for all children listed in this household.  If you are a member of a second household (i.e. as a step parent) you will need to follow these instructions for that family too. Remember you can also update your child’s emergency contacts through the “Emergency Contacts Form” box in Family Access.

Notes From the Office

Morning Drop-off: Parents, please use only the FRONT drive to drop off students. The back lots are for Faculty parking and Before School Care drop off.  Most importantly, students that bike and walk to school pass through the back lot each morning. Our priority must be placed on making student’s arrival as safe as possible, and to do so we must reduce the amount of unnecessary traffic in the back lots.  Safety is a shared responsibility, please do not drop off in the back lots.

In the front drive please proceed to the carpool lane (RIGHT side only) and pull forward as directed. We ask that all parents be respectful of the staff’s instructions, they are there to help provide a safe and efficient arrival. Your cooperation is essential.  Parents will remain in their cars and be prepared to move quickly when students exit the car (curbside only). A student may enter the building thru door #7 or door #1. Staff supervision is provided throughout the building to help students along the way. Students should not arrive or be dropped off before 8:00am unless they are supervised by a parent.

The Raptor System: MES uses a visitor management program called The Raptor System for visitor check-in.  Every visitor, volunteer and vendor who enter the building are required to have a photo ID at check-in. Photo IDs are scanned thru The Raptor program which helps to screen out sex offenders. Visitors will receive a preprinted badge with their photo on it and a visitors log will be kept electronically.

Attendance, Sick Days & Absences: Thank you parents for calling the office by 9:00am to inform us of your child’s absence or tardiness. Without notice your student's absence is considered unexcused. We appreciate the support you give us when you call in this information. The office number is available 24 hours a day, so you may leave a detailed message anytime.

Please remember when your child is out three consecutive sick days you will need to turn in a doctor’s note to be reported as excused. Also, in the event a vacation is planned, the office must be notified in writing three days prior to the withdrawal date. No work will be given out ahead of time. Students will have one day for each day they were out to complete missing work.
