Welcome Back MES Families and Students!
Patriot’s Day Ceremony
On Wednesday, September 11, our school will honor our military, police, firefighters, and EMS workers. We will have a short program to say thank you to all the people who serve our community and nation every day. We are asking students to wear RED, WHITE and BLUE to show thanks and support to this invaluable group of people. The program will begin promptly at 8:45am in the small gym (K - 2 grades) and the big gym (3 - 5 grades). All military, police, firefighters and EMS workers are invited to attend the ceremony. Please park on Harnett Street or Fifth Street. Please do not park in the staff parking lots. Proud to be an American!
MES sends a big THANK YOU to Mr. Tom Williams and Mrs. Vickie Miller, the crossing guards on 6th Street. They do such a wonderful job keeping our children safe as they cross the street, directs our buses when traffic gets busy and slows down traffic when necessary. Remind the children to tell Mr. Williams and Mrs. Miller hello and thank you each time they see them.
We are excited to again host Grandparent Breakfasts! More information will come home with students and a reservation will be required. If your child does not have a grandparent to attend with them, they can bring another guest in their place. Please remind grandparents not to arrive early, let the front circle traffic clear out before they arrive. Mark your calendars:
- September 16 - 5th Grade
- September 17 - 4th Grade
- September 18 - 3rd Grade
- September 19 - 2nd Grade
- September 20 - 1st Grade
- September 26 - Kindergarten
A Word from the NURSE
Parents, please remember to have your children wear CLOSED-TOE SHOES (no flip flops or sandals) to school each day. Also, Please send in a complete change of clothes for your student(s). ALL grades K-5 need extra clothes on hand. This includes a shirt, pants, underwear, and socks with each item labeled with the child’s name and placed in a Ziploc bag. If possible, send clothes that your child can change into regardless of the weather. We hope that your child’s day runs smoothly, but things can sometimes get messy (i.e. a milk spilled at lunch, puddles or mud at recess or a restroom accident). Having these clothes on hand will help us to quickly fix the situation and you will avoid having to make a special trip to school with a change of clothes. Thanks for your help.
PTO Meeting & Parent Workshop on Behavior Strategies for Your Home
We have a very active PTO here at MES. There are many benefits to joining the PTO, and it’s only $5.00 per family. Your dues assist annual PTO activities such as field trips, popcorn days, fall festival, teacher appreciation and so much more. This year, the first meeting will be held on September 12 beginning at 6:00pm. If you have any questions, please email the PTO at firstname.lastname@example.org. The meeting will be followed by a workshop for parents on Behavior Strategies for your home. Babysitters will be available. All MES students and their families are welcome!
The early bird catches the worm. This analogy reminds us of the importance of being ready to start in the morning. School is scheduled to begin at 8:25am. Students are expected to be in class at the start of school. Students who are not in class on time will be counted tardy. A parent must accompany their late student into the office to check them in. If your child will be eating breakfast please ensure they arrive at 8:00am. Breakfast is served until 8:20am.
PLEASE PUT CELL PHONES DOWN
Distracted drivers are a danger to our children, please put down your cell phone before entering any school zone. Remember that it is illegal to use a cell phone in a school zone while driving. This includes all drop-off & pick-up points on school property. Safety Starts with YOU.
Ensuring your child’s safety has always been a priority at MES. Some reminders are
- All doors into the building are locked for the day at 8:25am.
- Visitors must use the front doors and “buzz” the office from the outside. The office staff will then unlock the front door. All other staff have been asked not to “let” parents in the front door.
- Always have your photo ID with you.
- All visitors are required to wear a visitor’s badge in the building.
- Security cameras are in use throughout the building and grounds.
- All staff will wear ID badges identifying them as employees.
Thank you. We appreciate your cooperation as we endeavor to keep your child safe at school.
News from the Library
The theme for this year’s reading theme is “Let your imagination grow!” We have replaced Reading Counts with ReadnQuiz. It is more user friendly program. We are still inputting student data, once that is done I will train the students to use the new program. The August Book Fair was a huge success. Thank you to those who volunteered and/or purchased books!
