Testing Schedules

Testing is completed throughout the school year to help teacher's plan instruction in the classroom and to check progress of the students.  While teachers use many informational assessments as part of the curriculum, here is a list of additional assessments that are used throughout the school year.

Aimsweb

Aimsweb is used at the kindergarten and first grades to establish a benchmark for the students.  Students are typically assessed in late August/early September, December, and May.  This tool helps the teachers to check student progress in both reading and math skills.  Students who are performing below expected levels may be assessed more frequently through the Response to Intervention program.

Star 360

STAR 360 is used in second through fifth grade at Mascoutah Elementary School.  Once again, this assessment helps us to establish a benchmark for the students.  Students are typically assessed in late August/early September and again in December.  This assessments helps the teachers to monitor student progress in both reading and math skills.  Students who are performing below expected levels may be assessed more frequently through the Response to Intervention program.

OLSAT (Otis Lennon School Ability Test)

The OLSAT test is administered to third graders in February of the school year.  The OLSAT test is a group administered test that assess a child's cognitive abilities (verbal, non verbal, qualitative, quantitative, etc.) that relate to his or her academic success in school.   The results are usually sent home to parents during the third or fourth reporting period each year.  Information from this assessment helps teachers to plan various kinds of instruction that best meets the needs of students in the class.  This information is also used as one factor to determine placement in academically talented classes in fourth and fifth grade.

Illinois Assessments of Readiness

The Illinois Assessments of Readiness test is administered to all students in third through fifth grade usually in March or April.  This test assesses student learning in reading and math for third through eighth grade.  Results are usually given to parents at the first parent/teacher conference of the school year.
